Toyota and Subaru Partnership Finally Give Birth To The FT-86 Concept

The long awaited, highly anticipated, product of the recent collaboration between automotive companies, Toyota and Subaru is finally here. It looks fast, it is fast, it kicks ass and you can drive it fairly soon….. in Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 in March 2010. Dubbed the FT-86, this concept is very production ready and displays the two car company’s enthusiasm for getting this thing on the road as fast as possible. The intention of this collaboration is of course to make the best sports car possible with the given abilities of the two car companies, but at the same time they will both put out vehicles that will share the same chassis and ultimately the same powertrain. The powerplant will be a 2.0 liter, four-cylinder engine spewing out 200-250 hp through the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. The dimensions of this “Subieyota”, see what I did there, are tiny. It is in every which way smaller than the 370Z but boasts a slightly longer wheel base. It’s also one of the first cars from Toyota to wear their new, daring design language….. WE LIKE! Don’t take the interior too seriously as all of those edgy lines and risque materials used probably will be dummed down for the production model. Somewhere, grandfather Supra is shedding a tear that it’s maker still remembers what it’s like to actually drive something fun, young and exciting. Toyota…. we salute you! You can catch a live glimpse of the FT-86 concept this month at the Tokyo Motor Show. Source
