OK, You Can Stop Beat Boxing! Make Beats On Your iPhone With DopplerPad

Sure there are tons of music apps out there for smart phones today: Slacker, Pandora, iHeart Radio and a slew of others. All of those allow you to LISTEN to the radio, with DopplerPad you virtually are the radio. Made exclusively for the iPhone by developer Retronyms, DopplerPad allows the user to make beats right from the palm of their hand. With a colorful and intuitive UI, DopplerPad is based on live recording rather than sequencing. Simply choose an instrument and begin tapping. Each tap, depending on how hard you hit the glass, is different. The velocity adjusts with the tap intensity and interval so everything you create is entirely customizable by the user. Although the sounds provided are very basic, there are more than enough to keep you engaged. It is possible that the developers will include additional sounds in upgrades later on, keep your fingers crossed! One gripe is that DopplerPad’s UI is not multitouch. You have to input each sound seperately, while not a deal breaker we would still love to see this gesture implement later on. You can also record your own sounds via the phone’s microphone and import them for use in DoplerPad as well as copy and mix between loops, imagine the possibilities! DopplerPad rings in at $10, it may seem like a steep price for a phone application but when compared to a desktop version of the same app, it’s very reasonable! Ahhh, now I really need an iPhone!
