		<description>Totally silly.  Back in the 70&#039;s and 80&#039;s, bike helmets were fabric covered.  That was discontinued for exactly the reason that morethantoastmtx stated above:  the fabric was catching on obstacles and pavement during a collision, and causing injuries to be worse than a sliding surface.  So go ahead and push them as &quot;fashionable&quot; if you think they are, but they&#039;re not optimally safe.</description>
