eco // 07 – The Reinvention of the Wheel

Compact-able Urban Bicycle designed by Victor M. Aleman to save space when it is being transported or it is not in use. The Wheel is composed by six modules, each one has a double pivot in the joints, this allows the wheel to fold and become smaller, the spokes are contained in the inner structure of the wheel, when you unfold the system, the spokes rotate to the center of the mechanism where it attach to the center of the wheel. The double triangular structure is composed by expandable modules, each one collapses to a smaller dimension and then this modules align by the rotation of the axis in the joint of the structure, to keep in position all the structure is used an special part in a form of an X that aligns all the modules to their position. Linda bicicleta, parece una bicicleta montañesa, funciona en ese terreno?

Bonita, pero cuanto resiste la rueda? la imagen pertenece a una icicleta montañesa, funciona en ese terreno?

Its a cool Concept and i Love it. Rendering is fantastic. It doesn't show improvements on the problems with folding bikes, But is an interesting concept
  • This is a great concept. Kudos to the designer! Regardless of true feasibility, you followed an idea you had and it looks dynamic. I am inspired. Great design and detail!!!

Looks like this is catching a lot of flack already, but to be specific, those pedals are unusable. All pedals that don't lock to your shoe require some sort of platform in order to remain stable. Otherwise it's like pedaling on ice cubes. As far as engineering and ergonomics are concerned, I don't think there is enough information to give any reasonable comments.

We understand that it is a concept. But, it is not a new concept, so there your design should show an improvment on the problems that are faced with current folding bikes that are for sale and that you can actually ride. This looks like it is more complex than exisiting models, takes up more space, and is less stable/ rideable. Sweet rendering though. It fools a lot of people into thinking that this is a good design concept. Congrats!
  • fair enough..

There are no brakes, the assembly is time consuming and the tubing is prone to make the bike unstable because of lack of rigidity: the telescopic arrangements are short and are not stable... Pity. But looks nice. Sad it has too many unforseen points. Form is placed before function.
  • fantastic!!!

I can totally appreciate that this is a concept. Looks like a ton of hard work has gone into it and the idea is relevant.
But does the top tube need to be on such an angle ? So I assume you have done a ton of sketches and alot of research into strength / ergonomics etc etc.So can you please provide your reasoning behind designing such an ugly, unusable piece of shit pipe dream?

    thanks.
    Dylan.
