Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker has set the bar high for Gotham City villains, but reports say studio bosses have set their sights on Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

“Producers are convinced that the role of The Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny’s a pro. He’ll be able to take direction and still make the character his own. And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman?” a source said

They could be joining Angelina Jolie - the actress is reported to be after the role of Catwoman

The Riddler was played by Jim Carrey in 1995 film Batman Forever and Frank Gorshin in the Sixties television series. As for The Penguin, he was portrayed on the small screen by Burgess Meredith and in 1992 film Batman returns by Danny DeVito.

Plans for the sequel are yet to be announced but it is likely to star Christian Bale reprising his role as the Cape Crusader.

The Dark Knight has smashed box office records in the U.S., taking $ 314 million in just 10 days.

There is even talk of it challenging Titanic to become the biggest movie of all time. Titanic took $600 million in the US. Titanic took $ 600 million in the U.S.

I’d like to see Vin Diesel play as Bane.

I’d be really disappointed if they used Angelina Jolie as Catwoman. Honestly, the woman is hot and she’s a decent actress, but she is extremely overused. There are so many better choices out there, I’d say. Someone younger would be my choice. Someone who has a different kind of beauty than Jolie has - something more subtle, more soft and innocent than Jolie’s in-your-face amazing gorgeousness. But definitely somebody better looking than Maggie Gylenhaal (sp?). Unfortunately I can’t think of any specifics right off hand, but something along these lines.

I think Catwoman would be a good addition to the next movie, considering one of the themes for the next movie will deal with Bruce Wayne coping with a dual identity. There’s a love connection between Bruce and Selina but they just can’t be together for obvious reasons. Riddler would also be good for the same theme, maybe figure out Batman identity and use it against him.
Johnny Depp would be a great Riddler. He can play that cool, calm, charismatic, but evil character. He could also pull off the Joker part if it were a very minor role and no close-ups. Be great if they could work Harley Quinn in, Zooey Deschanel would be perfect. If Poison Ivy, Alicia Witt would be great. And I’m down to four on Catwoman and can’t make up my mind: Shannyn Sossamon, Rachel Weisz, Olivia Wilde, or Connie
