Cadillac Converj Gets Green Light

General Motors has approved production of the stunning Cadillac Converj, its extended-range electric-powered coupe based on the Chevrolet Volt’s Voltec architecture. GM brass wants the car on the road by 2011, making it a 2012 model. The Converj is going to feature a 16 kW lithium ion battery that will propel it for 40 miles and a 1.4 liter four cylinder engine to recharge whenever needed.

The exterior is not great, especially the grill. The interior is downright ugly with much too much glowing blue highlights. The model name is okay, but the spelling alone will drop sales a good 10%, at least in the U.S. and Canada. Does anyone have any taste or refinement working at GM or even common sense? Why not add a couple of extra J's and then you couldn't even pronouce properly the model name without lisping.

Anyway, it's a definite improvement over the gas-guzzling, designed-to-breakdown-within-five-years models GM (and Ford and Chrysler) have been producing over the last decade or more. Still, it's not competing with Lexus' SUV model or the Toyota Prius. Better yet, why not pull a Bill Gates by stealing the designs of the Tesla and using GM's organizational size to put them outta business (just like Internet Explorer did to Netscape Navigator). Ah well, at this rate Martin Eberhard will be running GM in a few years.
