[update] Lustix.com is the online portfolio of designer/illustrator/motion designer Gabriel Pulecio. The body of work on his site displays his broad range of style and technique and serves as a great preview of his skill set. Gabriel has a nice client list including Mercedes, Fox Sports, Motorola, TJ Maxx and EXTRA. His mix of traditional and digital illustration fused with photography create some very engaging combinations. The best feature about Gabe’s work is that he isn’t locked into one style. His eye for composition paired with his broad range of technique allows for vast creativity over many mediums.

Make Borgs not Blogs

Just found this dope new site called Borgger, a place to develop ideas and connect hands with minds to make them happen.

Unlike blogging, which is about opinions and editorials, borgging is about action, making new businesses, connecting on ideas, remixing art and music, etc. Pretty cool concept, perfect for fostering new ideas in a down economy.

It’s basically an open-source TED conference.

You can use Borgger to:

1: Finish a partially fleshed out idea with the help of others.

2: Share a great idea that you can’t make on your own but would love to see created.

3: Have a great idea? Prove it, apply a Creative Commons license, and see if it merits paying for a trademark.

4: Want to start a business? Scan Borgger for great ideas and either network with the author to co-develop or inexpensively buy the idea outright.

5: Post a piece of art / music / writing and see where other creatives can take it.

6: Quickly scan the homepage to see the best ideas as voted on by the Borgger community.

The site is just coming out of beta, but already has some ace content. Check out some of the top threads: De-centralized manufacturing, a plan to save newspapers, and so much more…awesome.

SUPER LOVER [update]

[update, fresh new work] If you are in the mood to get your mind blown by digital detail, look no further then http://superlover.com.au/ , home of Australian designer Justin M. Maller. Every time I look at his work, not only do I stare in utter amazement, but I always get inspired. There are so many different elements to his pieces that it’s often easy to get lost inside of one. This effect creates a type of beautiful, organized chaos. Justin may be a freelancer, but he has the client list and organizational affiliates that many would kill for.

Aside from freelancing, Justin spend much of his time writing tutorials and producing designs for many well known art and design publications, such as ‘Computer Arts’ and ‘Photoshop Creative’. On top of those duties, he is a core member of the KDU (Keystone Design Union), Australian editor of The Royal Magazine , and creative director of Depthcore .

Sounds to me like the dude is addicted to design. Well I guess you’d have to be to produce work like his. Take a look below for some samples of his work and make sure to check out his site.

Figured we’d drop this hotness on you guys as you all eagerly wait in anticipation for this movie to open. Every time I watch the trailer I get the chills without fail, especially with every eerie scene with the Joker. And I must say, out of this new collection, my obvious favorite is the one of him holding the joker card with Batman on it. I am certain Heath Ledger’s performance will be nothing short of amazing. I’m getting goose bumps just thinking about it. I’m not sure if it will be weird or not, considering the unfortunate passing of Ledger, but I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of Jokers come Halloween. July, 18 – mark your calendars.

EVERYBODY LOVES A CUPCAKE

If you haven’t heard of t-shirt superstar Johnny Cupcakes by now, then I don’t even want to know what rock you’ve been living under. Not only does the dude have mad style, but he has a huge following-from local hipsters to musicians and celebrities all over the country. What may be more impressive then his creatively nostalgic line, could be how his success has grown from absolutely nothing to a major fashion icon. What initially stated out as a joke, eventually turned into the hot item on the t-shirt/indie fashion scene. Johnny Cupcakes began selling his shirts out of the trunk of his busted up ‘89 Toyota Camry, but through dedication and determination turned his limited edition prints into a full strength brand. Complete with his own feature shoppe outside of Boston with another to pop up in LA this summer, Johnny never lost site of what was important. Sure he could have sold out as soon as he gained a little momentum and popularity, but he stayed true. He could have taken the easy route and made a quick buck by stocking his line in various retail locations, but he kept it real. His dedication to his fans and appreciation of their support has kept all his runs unique and limited edition, making his product that much more desirable.

Johnny’s hobby and passion turned into a full time gig with tons of perks, including meeting A List celebrities and musicians who dig his style, not to mention being his own boss. Our hats are off to you Johnny Cupcakes for making your dream come true, good luck with the LA store. If you ever decide to open up shop in NYC, be sure to let us know.

INSPIRATION: NATE FLOOD

Todays inspiration come from new york creative director Nate Flood . Nate is a digital artist with a great eye for the abstract. His use of abstract shapes, rich dark colors, elegant lighting effects and spacial compositions have helped him acquire a broad range of clients. His book boasts names such as Mazda, Nike, Sony, Computer Art Magazine, and Wired Magazine. Nate’s work ranges from posters to graphics on wakeboards, and motion work to fashion pieces. Talent like his doesn’t come easy, as he’s been in the design game for over seven years. Take a peek at a sample of Nate Flood ’s work below and make sure to check out his site for the full scoop. BUELLER?..BUELLER?.. BUELLER?

I highly doubt anyone saw this combination coming. With this new kick, Nike Skateboarding collides with 1986 cult favorite Ferris Bueller’s day off to create this amazing limited edition Dunk. But when you actually think about it, it doesn’t come as that much of surprise, seeing as how Ferris Bueller’s day off always ranks at the top of 1980s DVD sales. After all, as one of Matthew Broderick’s first pictures, it’s one of the most successful cross generational feature films around. These sneakers perfectly portray Ferris’ cool, recognizable sense of laid back style with a little twist. I’m definitely diggin these, although I might swap out those leopard laces for some black or brown ones, the leopard tongue is enough of that pattern for my taste. Make sure to scoop these up, as well as any others Nike SB unleashes this summer.

INSPIRATION: SUGAR RHYME

Sugarhyme is the digital showcase of Polish designer Karol Kolodzinski. Karol is a freelance, new media designer focusing on design and illustration for web and print for various clients including Coca Cola, IKEA, Oakley, 4Kids Productions, and Life Sciences Magazine.

Karol’s style is diverse and full of detail in complex layering. The attention to color and lighting effects is present in all of the work creating a great air brush effect in many of the pieces.

Not only are the individual illustrations unique and eye catching, the design of the site and interaction is also worth noting. The site it self has a somewhat alien feel to it, with abstract blurs of color, crisp typography, clean grid alignment and smooth transitions within the flash interaction. BURTON DOES PLAYBOY

Vermont based, snowboarding empire, Burton , has recently teamed up with the iconic, American nudie magazine Playboy to launch a brand spanking new line this summer. BOIINNGG. The collection will feature imagery from classic Playboy photo shoots and will appear everywhere from the graphics on boards, to bindings, to the lining on select jackets in the Ronin series. INSPIRATION: RIK OOSTENBROEK

I have to admit, I was pretty amazed when I came across this work. But then I was more amazed when I read that the designer was only 18. Dutch born, Rik Oostenbroek , may be young, but he’s got some mad skill already, and will presumably get better with time.

Although, it seems he emulates the hot style or trend going around in design right now, particularly seen amongst art groups such as depthcore and the KDU . No doubt, at some point this kid will find his place in the design universe. Natural talent, like his, will just mature over time, looking forward to seeing future projects a little further down the road. For now, take a look below for some selected pieces from his portfolio.
